I may have more "goodwill" and courtesy than Darth, but I agree with him about always zapping replies.
Discernment is important or else people will treat you like a faucet.
I zap everyone who leaves a thoughtful reply and I zap every reply from those I already have a relationship with. That is almost all of my replies, but the excluded minority is important.
You agree with him or with me. What he said sounds like a 'Majority cut in zaps', what I'm saying is "gesture of goodwill towards the Stacker who has read their post and wrote a few words.
I zap everyone who leaves a thoughtful reply and I zap every reply from those I already have a relationship with.
This should be the approach instead skipping to zap 'anyone'.
reply
If someone I have no relationship with replies "Nice", "Great", "I agree", etc., then I don't zap them. That's part of what Darth's getting at, although he takes it further than I do.
The point, though, is to use your sats to zap the kind of replies that add value. That'll be different for everyone, but everyone will also have some limit.
reply
Yes, he's taken it further and that's what made me disagree with him.
Initially, when I used to comment almost on everything, I remember I didn't like when any of my comment went zapless. I don't care if someone is new and he comments on my post or my comment, I'll still zap him 10 Sats out of my wish to develop a relationship with him.
reply
That used to be my approach. It used to be Darth's, as well.
Every so often SN gets a wave of sat farmers flowing through and during one of the recent ones I noticed I was getting lots of vacuous comments from people I never interact with and who I've never seen interact with anyone. Eventually, I figured out that I was being fed on by leeches, which I don't appreciate.
Feeding parasites only results in an infestation. There's nothing wrong with having standards for who gets your sats.
I also didn't like leaving thoughtful comments and seeing them not get zapped, but that's because I put thought into them. I'm sure that was the same for you.
reply
I'm sure that was the same for you.
Yes,
Feeding parasites only results in an infestation.
Now, I'm also having a limit. I get it when someone new shows up, I don't zap without looking at his bio and content on SN. It often gives an idea who we're dealing with.
reply
I didn't say it quite right initially. It's not that I have to have a relationship with them, but I'm only giving courtesy zaps to people I know are real stackers.
reply
I see. Who are real Stackers according to you?
reply
Pretty much anyone I'm familiar with. Maybe I haven't interacted with them directly, but I've seen them posting and commenting.
It's a pretty low bar. If someone I'm not familiar with wants their reply zapped, then it needs to have some substance to it.
I should also add that the accounts that triggered this change in me were also leaving lots of vacuous comments on other people's posts. If we just indiscriminately throw bread crumbs to the pigeons, SN threads will fill up with their shit.
Always look ahead. Looking behind is good for art and aesthetics but working for the sale of working is better moving forward.
reply
I think the important thing here is that @DarthCoin will send big zaps and he will do so via stealth modes and for that his balance is achieved by not merely zapping everyone.
I just zap when I feel very good about Stacker sometimes. Sometimes I zap someone who has taken the time to write even if I think it's wrong. I won't zap shitcoin things at all.
Everyone has their balance. Everyone is rational even if it doesn't make sense to you, me or most other people. Mises points this out in the beginning of Human Action.
Don't zap crap.
But I sometimes zap a whole thread indiscriminately because it's really cooking neurons and I'm experiencing the joy of life.
I'm probably not a good example.
reply
I'm very similar. Zapping a whole thread while I'm reading it is fun and it's nice to reward people for having interesting conversations where I can peruse them.
I usually zap replies that I don't agree with and then say why I don't agree.
There are a couple of people who I ignore, because I learned from experience that they won't engage in a good faith argument and their replies are very repetitive.
reply
Yes, those people exist on Stacker and I don't get them but I do respect that they still PAY TO POST.
So I still have a mild affection for the Dick Heads because they still spend sats to finger paint with their own poop.
reply
That's why I only ignore them, rather than downzapping.
reply
I mostly disagree with Darth for he doesn't ignore even the newbies. Often you'll find him posting something offensive to the bios of newcomers. Why don't you just let them in and understand what SN is all about. Maybe after a while they mend their ways, who knows?
reply
Sometimes they mend their ways because of Darth. Just ask @cryotosensei.
reply
I doubt so. He called me a pussy statist the other day haha
Calling them shitcoiners is offensive for you? For me is funny, because is true. Should I remember again that you are also a shitcoiner pretending to be a bitcoiner?
Shitcoiners will always deserve shit.
reply
It may be that someone is so new to the Bitcoin world or all the technical stuff that he hardly understands the difference.
But people like you just confront anyone or everyone without knowing the real situation only to look smarter.
