I was reading up on the blade rewrite, seems like a woke director only had him in the film for 20 mins and had positive female messages throughout it.

My sense is that there are different levels of decision making. 

At the highest level, you're right that they just want to make money and that will come through in the long-run.

At a middle layer, there are producers and directors who may be pushing a particular message. I've heard that Marvel fired a bunch of these woke producers, who they blame for the failures of the recent films.
