Pollsters lie
Polls said Carter had a slight lead until 2 days before Election Day. Reagan took the lead in the last 48 hours.
This explanation is total BS
Carter was very unpopular. Inflation was over 10 percent. Interest rates were 20 percent. Plus Iran hostage crisis. And we are supposed to believe 1980 election was going to be close???
Pollsters hated Reagan like Trump.

Yes he was despised by the press and pollsters, but the visceral hatred of Carter by the average citizen was off the charts. The failed helicopter rescue of the hostages where I think a few soldiers died was the last straw.
