Researchers from the University of Washington and Los Alamos National Laboratory have used the Summit supercomputer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory to simulate the intricate process of nuclear fission with unprecedented accuracy.

Their groundbreaking research has not only confirmed the existence of elusive “scission neutrons” but also revealed that the process of nuclear fission is far less random than previously thought.
