there are way too many icons, colors, and animations on stacker news.
some posts have no icon (the ones i post), some have grey lightning bolts, some have different shades of other colours, and this one has a magnifying glass. the site title is yellow, my sats balance is green, op tags are purple, reply buttons are orange, and links and user tags are blue. plus there's a big lightning bolt across the screen whenever i click upvote.
in isolation, each design element is kind of quirky and i get the desire to have a unique style. however, none of the icons, animations, or colors work together to form a consistent design style. while quirky in isolation, it comes across as cluttered, and without a sense of direction or belonging when all these elements are combined.
i think stacker news deserves its own unique brand with consistent styling throughout. it doesn't need to be corporate or boring, but it does need to be consistent.
something that will remind every user that they are on stacker news, no matter which action they take or which page they visit.

Nitpicking: Maybe sticking to a palette of colors too? I love the black/dark gray backgrounds and gold outlines and glows. But the links, usernames and OP tag look a random.

agree, a consistent color palette + design style would really help define the stacker news brand.

I see your point. We'll certainly outgrow my style eventually.

feels weird that it's the 3rd one down, seems like it would be good if it was at the top as if it were a "pinned" announcement thread.

I agree but it felt more weird to me to have a static item taking up the top. We'll see how everyone else feels

i dont think thats an issue, i consider this a similar to "What are you doing this weekend" threads on lobste.rs etc
if the treads are popular they will naturally float somewhere close to top
