Hey stackers,
A friend is going to meet with some executives at real estate, lending, and title companies in the coming weeks to orange pill them and show them how bitcoin can help their businesses.
Got me thinking - I feel like this is a pretty under-explored topic, at least to my knowledge. I know of companies like Hoseki (PoR) and Lightning Escrow, but I thought I'd open it up to further discussion:
What are some of the biggest opportunities for bitcoin to change the real estate industry today?
Multi-sig escrow?
No-kyc Real Estate purchases?
Before demonetizing real estate, how does bitcoin reshape that industry? What are the opportunities?
Let's discuss below!
The no kyc possibility is limited at best. Deeds will be a part of the industry for a long time. Also, real estate ownership can never be trustless, obviously. Some privacy is possible with vehicles like a Wyoming anonymous LLC. I think I recall a What Bitcoin Did podcast where Marty Bent was in the process of buying a house with a bitcoin mortgage. This was about 6 months ago.

One thing for sure is their industry is hurting right now, an extreme no-kyc pitch seems too hard to swallow. Id start with the pristine collateral argument, since thats easy to grasp and up their alley with loans.

I don't think bitcoin will demonetize real estate, especially given the undue influence of government regulation and implementation of legislation. Certainly some real estate will lose the value it has now, and other will gain new value unperceived prior, but this happens regardless. I expect many people to only sell their real estate for bitcoin, though not a majority in my lifetime. But some other bitcoiners will acquire more, and use it to develop the culture they envision for the world.
I don't see how executives can take advantage of that now. I find real estate prices more stable than bitcoin! In understanding bitcoin they can take advantage of it in the future, especially by taking personal positions now, and letting their mind start to crank and turn with the notion.
Land will always be important. And it's not that hard to build stuff on it, but it matters a lot where you build things. "Location, Location, Location." Bitcoin will never change that. But it will realign how we value locations. I've gone in a circle now.
