+1 for the color change idea, maybe worth experimenting with a filled pin too, rather than an empty one with a border (since lightning icons are all filled.
also, the lightning bolts on the leaderboard are backwards, going from top-left to bottom-right, while the 'S' in the stacker news logo is angled like a traditional bolt (google search for lightning bolt and they're all the same), going from bottom-left to top-right.
can we change the lightning logo to be angled like the stacker news 'S'?
the lightning logo is still distinct from the title, and familiar to everyone (when oriented correctly). it makes sense that if this is a lightning network site, the lightning bolt enables the lightning functionality.
the fact that it looks similar to the 'S' is less important, but would actually help tie the design of the logo together with the function of the site. important to give new users icons they recognize in a familiar form.
Cynical take: I suspect like with all this stuff, the VC's got part of the pre-mine and for the last few years this has been like owning a part of a casino - they benefit from everyone else losing their money. Plus their investments are liquid from the moment the bubble begins inflating.
Generous take: They don't understand bitcoin or buy into the FUD and think the Money Messiah is "the first carbon negative cryptocurrency" and "an avid supporter of the arts."
Moxie said on twitter that he is willing to implement a Lightning solution in Signal if it meets all of his UX requirements. He chose MobileCoin first because it met all the requirements he needed.
I found Moxie's responses and complaints about Lightning quite reasonable. His main thing is that no identifiable data can reach Signal servers. That's the whole value proposition of Signal. Lightning doesn't provide that (yet?).
As someone who was very skeptical of Lightning years ago when it was first proposed, I have to say it sure does seem to be working pretty well. I've been having a great time spending sats lately. Almost feels like the good ol' days.
