Celebrating Kukur Tihar: A Day Dedicated to Honoring Dogs in Nepal!
In Nepal, we celebrate a unique and heartfelt tradition as part of the five-day Hindu festival of Tihar. The second day of Tihar, known as Kukur Tihar or the "Day of the Dogs," is dedicated to honoring and worshipping our loyal friends.
According to Hindu belief, dogs are considered to be the messengers of Yamraj, the god of death. They play a sacred role as gatekeepers to the afterlife, guiding departed souls safely across the river of death and ensuring their journey to heaven.
During this beautiful festival, both pets and stray dogs are celebrated and appreciated. Hindus honor them by placing vibrant marigold garlands around their necks, marking their foreheads with a sacred Tika(holy red mark) , and offering them delicious food as a token of gratitude and love.
This tradition is a reminder of the special place dogs hold in our hearts and culture, recognizing their loyalty, protection, and guidance both in life and beyond.
Thank you for the share.

I didn't know that Hindus honored dogs in such a way, dogs being such special beings for each of those who give them love and appreciation.
