It's Saturday, thus it is poll day!
A conversation I was having this morning with @Shugard and @realBitcoinDog had me thinking about an idea I had many months ago when the Chess territory got archived.
We don't need sub-territories, we can just do territory takeovers and I or someone else can invade my territory like I did with Meta.
So, here is my idea. I (or preferably someone who is not me) create a sub territory within Stacker Sports for Chess and Other games. Chess being the most obvious seeing as we have some native demand and a bot already (thanks @ek). Could also be poker tournaments through lightning poker, maybe we can get @ek to make us a blackjack bot or another card game, have SN jeopardy style trivia nights (not sure how to pull that off but spit balling here).
If the pseudo sub territory proves popular enough then it might be worthwhile to create a standalone territory for it, but if not then no harm, no foul.
I would even go to the extent that if someone who is not me is really passionate about this idea. Have at it and we can figure out the daily revenue the invader is generating and I will split it with them.
What do you think of this idea stackers?

Maybe I'm in the minority thinking it's a good idea. I recall you creating a de facto sports territory before territories existed. Sometimes the SN management needs a little shove. I hope real sub territories are not far off. I'm betting you disagree and think it's premature.

What's the main problem you see subterritories solving?

Good question. Most territories are pretty general. Let's look as music as an example. The territory owner only has so much time and energy to devote to the territory, and the subject is enormous and diverse. If the founder could rent or sell a sub for a particular genre, band, performer, instrument, etc, the person running the sub would have a focused interest. It would be easier for the territory to sustain itself because the financial burden is shared, and marketing would be more focused.
reply
I don't need rent. Driving more traffic to the territory is a net benefit to me so I would even share the revenue a sub generated if someone was making a concerted effort to creating a good and growing sub territory.

Whether it's called rent or not, I think there would need to be some kind of financial split. There could even be sub sub territories. @BlokchainB gets a hockey sub, I rent the Islanders sub from him, etc.
reply
I need Cricket and as sub subs Big bash, IPL, world T20, etc etc.
reply
If you want to create a cricket sub that's cool but I haven't even reached profitability in the sports territory yet. It won't likely make a profit but you may want to buy it as an investment in case SN is huge in the future and then you have the cricket territory which would be very popular.
reply
I'll buy it as a sub. I know it'll be possible in future and I think it's better to keep posting Cricket in ~stcker_sports till then. Having a territory only for Cricket isn't gonna be profitable not until we have at least 1000 active cricket lovers.
Today, I've seen an interesting stat that most of the forever top posts haven't even been zapped by more 200 stackers.
I think in a formal sub situation sure but as a test I don't think there needs to be financial commitment from the sub.

I should have been more clear. I agree with you 100 percent for your idea on the post. I was talking about when subs are formalized. Sorry
Bitcoin mining will be sub territorial
reply
I hope so too!

I can see where you're going and I think it's great. Though still low numbers to consider it, especially for European football.
reply
I am sure there are lots of stackers who are European football fans. We just need to find them.
reply
Yes, I am sure too. It's a matter of time. I will keep doing my part. This coming week Champions League returns and I will post tomorrow.
reply
You are a stupid, stupid man.😳
But seriously I mean hey driving more traffic that’s not bitcoin related is a good thing. Elevate the ~Stacker_Sports brand.
Get out of here, barstool sports!

Yeah I often do posts in my construction territory that can fall under sports (construction of a new sports arena) I often think man it would be cool to add a sub territory pay. The then owner of the territory can set the fee the OP must pay to allow it to be sub
reply
I don't know if it makes sense to have a sub territory of a territory that already exists as a standalone (i.e sports construction) unless it was going to be archived but I think testing new ideas in other territories could be a good outcome for both parties.
reply
I guess I am thinking more of a sub tag. Like I can post it construction but then tag sports or other subs that may be related to the construction
reply
I like the idea in general (both for pseudo-sub-territories and for the specific one), but wouldn't ~gaming actually be the right territory for this?
reply
It could definitely work under gaming but I don't control that territory so that is not up to me. I think sports and games of skill can pair nicely and if it's a big hit then it can have its own territory.
reply
Why dont you make one just for board games or p2p games? Then you would be able to include many games.
reply
Eventually maybe there is a games and activities territory. I just think invading another territory is a good way to test the viability rather than outlaying 100k sats to find out if there is interest.
But if someone is putting the effort to test a territory within my territory and thus bringing more traffic and revenue to my territory, I would want to compensate them with a bit of revenue sharing even though they don't need to share in the expense side of things. A win win I think.
reply
I dont know. You might not have the same thought if someone tests it out on you. What if someone is better at sport news and gets lots of support and branches off? Leaving you bankrupt? Just food for thought.
reply
But could a sub-territory be made? If so, it would be an excellent initiative and we could all share the magic of chess ♟️.

I would have preferred selecting "Love it! Even blind squirrels occasionally find a nut."
