Didn’t even expect it but I’m stoked for apple Car Play. I hate messing with my phone while driving but it’s the only way to get Fountain working. With it crashing all the time, it was a pain in the ass.

The autoplay queue feature is something I've been waiting for! Excited for that!
reply
Nice, the queue is huge. The last feature I need is the ability to import an RSS feed directly (like if I'm subscribed to a private RSS feed that isn't listed on normal podcast indexes).

Excited about CarPlay. The last time I used another pod app was when I was on a drive and had trouble getting it to play in the car.

Can someone pitch me how can Fountain fare against a free software podcast player like AntennaPod?
The possibility of earning a few sats per day does not seem worth it if I have to listen to ads as well.
First I don't get how it is sustainable to give free sats to listeners, second if the problem they are trying to solve is properly rewarding content creaters and remove their incentives to shill for scams, couldn't other existing podcast apps just better integrate lightning donations?
reply
well you currently are not listening to ads, are you?
they have an ad every day which you can listen to or skip it
currently if you dont want to listen to ads at all on spotify for example you have to pay a monthly fee but you dont get to receive anything in return, just the knowledge/entertainment I guess you already heard Oscar Merry's pitch so I wont repeat himself in here
as for the free sats they are giving to listeners - they receive money from creators and distribute part of that to listeners, basically dont keep 100% of that
I think the main problem they are trying to solve is rewarding listeners and giving a better indication for creators what their listeners find valuable/worthy to listen and what not

Wouldn't it make more sense to cut the ads entirely and exclusively reward creators instead of users?
I get no external ads on AntennaPod that's why I mistakenly thought the point of Fountain was to replace patreon so that users could easily donate sats to creators and thus be rewarded with no ads inside the podcast itself.
I don't know who Oscar Merry is or what is his pitch.
reply
if they remove the ads then users have to pay monthly fee - they need revenue at the end of the day
to be honest I think you should be focusing on the users, not the creators. current business model is flawed - you either have it all free for users and creators, or you put a fee only on users, while you reward creators. so as a user would you rather get education/entertainment for free or even better get paid on top of that? is that payment sustainable? as long as there is a user base there creators and companies would want ppl to know them hence would pay fountain
at the end of the day creators without users means nothing. at the moment their revenue source comes from creators who promote their content or companies like zbd/casa/voltage
Oscar Merry is the co-founder, you can listen to his episode at Pomp for example
