Getting ready for yet another job interview, and seeing as I fucking hate neckties and always feel like I'm being choked, decided to see if there was any science behind that hate. Looks like a little research has been done, and I want to see more.
In the meantime, will choke my way through yet another interview.
I went through a phase where I hated wearing a tie, then I liked it because I bought all these beautiful ties and actually learned how to properly tie a tie. Then the thrill wore off and I hated it again. I never wear ties.

Haha l also hava a lot of nice ties. Learning how to do a full windsor is a rite of passage.

I tied a full windsor once for an important presentation, but my muscle memory is for four-in-hand.

Full Windsor is a triumph. I used to tie mine in a half Windsor.

I never liked how it pulled to one side.

You definitely have to do it well.

The full windsor is a bit more even. And by doing so many loops, you are able to get a bigger knot.

I had to wear them to school for eight years, which is undoubtedly a factor for me. I hit my "never wear ties" phase early in life as a result.

What's your go-to knot?

that's EXACTLY my journey, bitch.
Stop copying my life

Can't you just tie it loosely? That's usually what I do.
I don't really have to wear a tie for work though, it's mostly just for weddings.

Your collar might not be the right size. If you get a well fitting shirt, then the tie doesnt feel constricting.
reply
I've tried upping collar sizes, different styles (buttons and collar stays) even not buttoning the top button, and all of them feel fine until I tie the tie. Even if the tie isn't flush against me, it still feels like I'm choking a bit.

Get a clip on the. Cops use them for very good reasons.
I prefer a real tie but if it's comfort verses misery choose comfort.
reply
I honestly had never thought about cop ties and realized they were clip-ons.

Not all, but many. I think the state troopers are more formal. Many police now wear fatigues and so no tie. I guess this is more old school.

May be a mind over matter type of thing.

If I tie it for you, yes, it will
reply
If you don't tie the tie tight then you will be alright.
It's an extra step but it's meant to show that you have some culture under your skin and you are not a goon.
As far as use goes if you get in a knife fight, shot or bit by a poisonous snake you can use it as a tourniquet.
