NYT features the "exodus" from X to Bluesky. Apparently a million new users in a few days.

Why isn't Stacker News and/or Nostr seeing these kinds of numbers?

...or maybe they/we are, and I just haven't seen it. Is there a way to keep track/measure the overall size of these freer communication networks?

One explantion (in the article) is that the ex-Xers are all just (hyper-)left-wingers, meaning they won't be too happy on Nostr either

They don't know about Nostr and SN. They know about bluesky because it was an adjacent project to twitter.

Maybe bluesky is a good place to market nostr and SN though as these new users are more likely to try other things as well until they find what they like and it becomes habit forming and very difficult to break them away.

Thanks for writing this so I don’t have to (not sure if I would have)

I don’t even want more twitter personalities here tbh, I think we have enough of them already.

I created a Bluesky account. So far my interpretation is it is mostly a support group for people who want to light themselves on fire because Trump won but I have been replying to people's silly comments about bitcoin in the least trolling way I can (which is difficult for me) so we will see what comes of it.

I like the way you think.

I'm also not eager for any of those partisan hysterics to come here. Good thing for you they never actually make good on their promises to move to Canada when they don't get their way.

reply

We need a @DarthCoin that calls out people who write in a very sensational, attention-seeking, knee-jerk way. This is my definition of "twitter personality" so far.

reply

This is a better point. Nostr is invisible and SN even more so. But even if they did know about these things they would hate them for the same reasons they are leaving Twitter. Lack of left wing censorship.

Bluesky was funded by Jack when he was at Twitter....it was meant to be a "protocol" originally....his goal was to integrate this into Twitter to decentralize Twitter and solve his problem of the gov agents constantly badgering him to remove content. He wanted to be able to say "I can't remove that content, its completely decentralized now..."

The bluesky team, being typical Silicon Valley types (ie. authoritarian lovers) soon decided to pivot once it was announced Jack was leaving Twitter. So, they turned it into a Twitter clone to re-home their other authoritarian lovers.

Jack discovered Nostr and deleted his Bluesky account.

reply

Yea I doubt they’d like nostr lol

You answered your question

all just (hyper-)left-wingers

I don't know about all but these aren't Trump voters or liberty minded people.

reply

Same people from X will be on other platforms too.

There’s nowhere to run to. Lol
