Honestly it’s his only way to get him through but I don’t think it would even work. The Senate would hold a hearing on it and depending on how bad the results of it were there could be an impeachment move if he doesn’t resign.

If he was smart he would just withdraw his name from consideration and thank the President for opportunity but some family thing came up. He and everyone save face and the report stays locked up.
