Today was another one of those good days!
I had my favourite 10th class for 2x 90min today. And boy are they getting good! They basically don't care about the curriculum anymore. They ask questions, and they ask a lot!
Today's questions were: Why not more welfare, isn't it good? Don't we need so many bureaucrats to save people? Why legalise home schooling, isn't that destroying the future of children? Why don't I cheer for the left party, don't they want equality, social welfare and forcing the rich to pay the right amount of taxes?
It was such a fun class!
They just repeat what they hear. But if you change them, they crumble, but they get a spark in their eyes. Something revived, something long dead. Their curiosity!
Man, the kids woke up! More and more! In the beginning only 3-4 were asking questions and were curious, in the end all 25 were curious!
  • They want to escape the bullshit system.
  • They don't want to repeat things, they want to understand things.
  • They want to think critically as soon as they see that the teacher will not shut them down if they do not live and repeat what the teacher says.
Children are curious about the world! They are just not used to it, and certainly not allowed to it in the usual system.
It is always a joy to see them find their own potential and be curious!
I think the two most important skills children should learn in school (if they should be in school at all) are social skills and critical thinking. Cut out all the other crap!
So I am ready to answer all their questions! I offered them an extra 90 minutes after school this Friday if they came prepared with questions. Lets see how many come.
I also had to break the news to them that they will have 4 extra 90min lessons in January because we are not getting through the topics in time.
The answer of one of the students: Don't worry, double it, we don't mind, we love your classes!
I love these kids! The only reason why I go to school every day!
