- The U.S. dollar on a trade-weighted basis has increased by 7.53% over the past year because of growth and interest rate differentials between the U.S. and its major trade partners. The dollar is set to soar in the next year amid an expansionary fiscal policy and a new tariff regime.

- People have long believed that having a light and early dinner is healthier, and now a study by the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) and Columbia University provides scientific evidence to support this claim. Published in the open-access journal Nutrition & Diabetes by the Nature group, the study reveals that consuming more than 45% of daily calorie intake after 5 p.m. is linked to elevated glucose levels, which can have harmful health effects regardless of an individual’s weight or body fat.

- On November 9, 1959—just two-and-a-half weeks before Thanksgiving—the U.S. secretary of Health, Education and Welfare made a startling announcement: some cranberries grown in the Pacific Northwest may have been contaminated by a weed killer that could lead to cancer in rats. This meant that cranberry sauce, a popular staple of Thanksgiving dinners, might not be on the menu anymore.

New DA Nathan Hochman takes office on Dec. 3.
