No, not nice. It is a hard song, but a true song. People say, “Thank you for your service.” It is absolute BS. They just don’t know.

He wrote this when he got out of the army he never got sent to Vietnam, but a lot of his friends did.

He was lucky in that respect if he was in the Army. Coming back whole was a feat usually accomplished by the support troops in VietNam. Everybody else came back somewhat damaged, one way or another.

That was the escape that a lot of them managed to make. He probably wasn’t a ground pounder, either. A lot of the people that went to Germany had some other speciality in the military.
