First snow of the season, and it's cold as hell. The dogs still need their walks. Maybe I should move south.

Maybe I should move south.
I spontaneously decided a few days ago to spend two weeks in Madeira starting this weekend. 👀
I heard good stuff about the island from fellow bitcoiners who went there because of Sovereign Engineering.

I really want to visit. It looks beautiful. More practically, people in the Northeast US usually flick to Florida or the Carolinas. Not even close to as cool as Madeira.

You're from Portugal, right?
reply
Mainland Portugal, to my great regret, I've only been to Madeira once.

Don’t you enjoy the snow? I think it is very beautiful while snowing and just after snowing. The hard part comes in the cleanup.

Welcome to the great white north. We have 7 seasons here: Early winter, hard winter, late winter, early spring, spring, early fall, and.late fall. Each of our seasons is enjoyable to the max. Just don’t slip on the ice.

Sounds chilly! Walking the dogs must be quite the adventure.😁

Yes, and for the first time in my life I'm worried about taking a fall. Now that I'm older it's a bigger concern. I stepped in a little sinkhole in my driveway while walking my dog late at night about a month ago. I bashed a knee and bruised some ribs. I was lucky. It could have been a lot worse.

I once slipped on the ice and fell on the stoop going out my door. I thought I was lucky because I caught an arm on a rail, instead of going all the way down. It turned out that I did something to my arm which caused it to turn the color of a hard bruise. The whole arm, from finger tips to shoulder. It surprised the hell out of me because I thought I was safe.

Stoop! I have not heard that term since I was a kid in NYC. Where are you from?
Sounds like an ugly fall.
reply
My father was from London via New York City. That is what I learned to call it. People also call them, “The steps.” No, it wasn’t so ugly, although it could have been. I think I caught a main artery on the rail edge and may have done some internal bleeding. It didn’t hurt and I didn’t bother with the medicos. I did not think it was so bad, but it took about 6 weeks to totally clear.

Snow can be so unpredictable and treacherous especially thick snow. I’m so sorry to hear about your fall last month. Maybe using long boots with excellent grip could help with stability during dog walks. Stay safe out there.

Thanks. Good advice

It's unusually warm here for this time of year. I see lots of dogs walking their owners around here! 🤠
