i feel like if they exist, they wouldn't allow us to destroy ourselves, if only because , i would imagine, observing us and all the BS we get up to on earth must be like watching a reality tv disaster show and where's the fun in having it all end ?
Thinking from the perspective of a reality show, it would make a lot of sense to observe our species just as an experiment. Now thinking about the planet and all the other species that live here, it wouldn't be very wise of them, unless life in the universe is not as scarce as we think. Another hypothesis would be... what if aliens wanted to use our planet? So I believe they didn't let it get to that point, because the planet would be doomed for years and years by the amount of radiation.

You might disagree with me, but I feel like this life was given to us by intelligent life itself. And honestly I think they might be surprised at how far we’ve come in just 2 million years, we went from caves to the moon’s surface and our tools have already passed the solar system. But at the same time, I think they might be disheartened seeing how we’ve created imaginary borders, divided ourselves, and all the other nonsense. Still, I believe they’ll give us more chances to prove ourselves. They'll definitely intervene if we're about to nuke ourselves.

we've evolved quite nicely, humans are still mostly shit in nature though, same as 10000 years ago, we're just shit with better tools.
of course, it's a generalisation, but the amount of evil and sadism done by people is still pretty up there

Doesn't the excitement come from seeing if a species can actually make it through the great filter. If they don't you would just move on to the next species that has a chance.
Only civilizations that make it are worth talking to and investing in.

This was sort of explored in Three Body Problem where aliens interfered with technological development on Earth ... they didn't do it to stop earthlings from harming themselves though.

Part of me wonders if they would even care.

where's the fun in having it all end ?
Ask any scientist who learned to run tests with observations and results analysis.

I don't want to think.

They won't 💚

What if destroying ourselves is part of the great filter? Would they step in, or would they wait to see if we were a species worthy of existing?
reply
because i feel like they would know will still have a ton more mental evolution before we even get remotely close to not potentially destroying each other. it would be like cutting short the experiment

It's possible that whether or not we kill ourselves is the experiment.
