It's that time of year where everywhere I go, I hear Christmas music playing in the background. Is that because people really enjoy it? Is it subliminally comforting or something? I feel most people I know find it annoying. And I know a few who really like it a lot. Seems like a polarizing thing. How do you feel about Christmas music when you hear it playing in a public place?

We have an Xmas radio station fully stacking Xmas bangers since late November

Nice. What is it that you like about it? Is it a nostalgia thing? Is it comforting? Fun to sing or hum along to?
reply
Same songs I've known since childhood, probably nostalgia yeah

I can top you there. We have a station that cranks up the Christmas music on November 1st. They hit it up the day after Halloween 24/7. I turn it on occasionally in the car as I am traveling. It is pleasant listening until I habituate and it gets tuned out.

Some songs I am completely sick of hearing.
Some I find really nostalgic and fun.
Some newer and crazy or niche ones I find fun.
Overall, it really depends on the song.

I think this is probably how I feel overall.

I haven't indulged this season yet, but I'm generally a sucker for anything wholesome.

Wholesome feels good sometimes in this wild world..

As long as it's real Chritsmas music and not fiat stuff it's great: https://inv.nadeko.net/watch?v=37q9zIznj2M&list=PLQtujWdJqlCpsT4A19mN1Bb4FS81IjDRD&index=11

Last Christmas, I gave you my heart, but the very next day, you gave it away. This year...πŸ˜…πŸ˜†

Now that I have kids I enjoy it! Before it was annoying!

Oh I love it.
One year, I joined the Singapore Association for the Deaf’s volunteering group and did Christmas song signing in front of Starbucks outlets for the whole of December. It was great fun 🀩

I like it - but not until after Thanksgiving.

I feel like I can get what I need from the season just by watching "Christmas Vacation" "A Christmas Story" and "Die Hard"
reply
Christmas Vacation is a great Christmas movie. I also like Elf and Home Alone. The last one is more about nostalgia for me.

I'm being a bit of a Scrooge. Also like those movies. I guess I just don't seek out the Christmas music, I'll get enough from the occasional holiday movie, and especially from a department store πŸ˜‚

Me too. A little goes a long way.

I like it within reason.
Many years ago I worked in the retail business and Christmas music drove me nuts because that’s all I heard all day for a month out of the year but now I really appreciate it. I like listening to classical Christmas music with my daughter when she is doing her online lessons.

I agree it is kind of nice in the right dosage. When I was younger working at a store where it played all day on a loop it started to get to me.

I don't mind it.
reply
I really enjoy them, but when they are on loop, it becomes annoying to listen to the same song I've been listening to since childhood lol
reply
The same songs over and over can get annoying even if they are good ones.
reply
Yep, you might want to break your head sometimes

"...the weather outside is frightful..."
that line has been stuck in my head for a few days now
reply
That happens to me often where I get just one line or part of a song stuck in my head on repeat. Sometimes it is the strangest random songs too...
