Hey guys, I'm a random plate licking pleb. Figured I'd give this AMA thing a spin.
A little about myself,
  • I currently work as a formalities specialist at an intellectual property law firm in VA
  • I'm black, my wife is Korean, we have a dog and rabbit
  • Air Force Veteran (4 years)
  • Avid music listener (mostly rap, indie, and pop)
  • Living on 0 fiat
  • Before coming to Bitcoin, was obsessed with the computer game DOTA 2
  • Noob lightning node operator (17 transactions forwarded!)
  • Only started using social media to promote my failed blog
  • Steak eater/Runner/Optimist
If it's not too much trouble, would you mind sharing how you are able to live on a 0 FIAT budget. I'm assuming Bitcoin is the solution, but how and where do you buy stuff.

Unfortunately I use the crypto.com visa card from my shitcoining days. I also use muun and the bitcoin company for things like Uber and Marshalls. I pay my bills with the Visa , and If I need to head to the store, I'll check if the store has a gift card, if not I'll send to the crypto card. I'm one of those plebs desperately waiting for the Strike Debit Card. As we all wait for merchants to accept lightning

check out paywithmoon.com
no-kyc visa debt cards payable with lightning or on-chain.
you could open a lightning channel from your mobile wallet, like blixt, to your node, and open a channel from your node to moon's to make purchases and regain some privacy while dropping the shitcoin casino.
or coinjoin on-chain payments directly to moon.
use the name "Valued Customer" when paying bills with your prepaid cards.
there are other options, too. bitrefill and 'the bitcoin company' come to mind.

Hello fellow Virginian. You should join my meetup (assuming you live close enough) https://www.meetup.com/gold-silver-bitcoin-local-grassroots-economy/
reply
Ha, joined the meetup group. Good looking out

How long have you been running your LN node?
reply
Six months maybe, I'm pretty sporadic tho. I need to add more liquidity and find a good way to balance my channels. Dont think I touched the node at all last month. Was oblivious to it forwarding transactions
reply
less balancing, more feeding the flow. from my experience, most channels don't route both ways. they're either incoming or outgoing flow.

Which modern bit coiner would you really like to hang out with in person?
Doesn't intellectual property conflict with the bitcoin ethos?
Why do you have a rabbit?
What do you mean with living on 0 fiat? Only holding bitcoin and coverting back to fiat at exactly the moment you need it for the exact amount? If that is the case, isn't that potentially inefficient given that each transaction is going to pay fees + market spread?
How many channels?
Total liquidity?

Every fiat job i've ever had somewhat goes against the ethos. This was literally the best job I could get at the time, and have alot of respect for property rights.
My wife came home with a rabbit one day.....and the rest is history
0 fiat might be ineffective, not sure. Doing it for fun. Sold my car and got a part time job to boost my income and to ensure I have enough of a float to take care of any issues that may arise.
Six Channels 400k liquidity..... Looks like I routed another payment couple days ago...not quite sure what I'm doing, but it looks like progress :)

Property rights != owning public information or an idea
