Ingenuity is the gift that just keeps on giving. After smashing expectations, Ingenuity was only expected to perform 5 flights over its life and instead performed 72 over three years, the little helicopter that could has found a new role to play after the hard landing that broke off a rotor blade. Except for the rotor blade, the helicopter itself is healthy and doesn't know it is damaged because it has no sensors in its rotor system. So NASA has decided that Ingenuity would transition to becoming a stationary weather data collection system.
As long as its batteries and everything else remain in good condition it has the space to record up to 20 years of data before it fills up! A downside to this is that it will not be able to transmit this data back to Perserverence via radio who is able to relay it to earth. This data will just be continuously connected until either A) we land people on the planet and retrieve it B) we lose where it is and never collect the data or C) we have use the sample return mission (which itself is in doubt) to return not only the samples that Preservence has taken but the data itself.
