Assmilking is a topic that is poisonous.
Why, you might ask yourself. Assmilking and talking about assmilking is nothing different that talking about some other immutable factors in human relationships. Assmilkers Parasites Freeloaders Freeriders High return for no effort kinds of people have existed since time immemorial, will not go away and cannot be banned. So, the question is what to do about them.
Well, you could invest authority in a central orgainization or person to make all the decisions that he or they think is proper. Do we want that? My answer is NO!!. By my observations, Stacker News was designed and constructed to give the participants as much control over all of the environment as possible. We decide who is trusted, what posts or comments deserve rewards, who to reward, why to reward, and where to do the posts and comments. The answer to the organizing question, whether centralized or decentralized (individualized) control is better for Stacker News has been answered by the developers and owners as DECENTRALIZED AND INDIVIDUALIZED.
That means that WE are the ones that determine how the assmilkers freeloaders freeriders parasites fare on Stacker News. Yes, they will game the system, try to take and not give, zap strategically and make inane comments and posts. They will do all that and more (I just cannot think of the more at the moment). What every THEY do, WE determine thier fate as far as rewards go. The only game they have in Stacker News is to game the leaderboard! That is the only way they can derive rewards from SN if nobody rewards them for less than useful, or wasted content. WE give them the sats they crave, even though the leaderboard has rewards attached. WE by our actions determine what their reward is. So, why are we bellyaching crying complaining about it? You have it in your power to withhold the rewards by just not giving them to those participants you think are taking advantage of us.
In biology the assmilkers freeloaders freeriders parasites have a specific function: they kill the weak and improve the strong! Which are you? If you improve discernment you are getting stronger. If your judgement on who and how much to reward becomes stronger, you become better at it in all walks of life. Does bellyaching crying complaining about it do any good? Well, I guess it feels good, but doesn't have much results. Calling out the assmilkers freeloaders freeriders parasites does nothing to embarrass them out of the habit, they are doing it for the sats. So your complaints do little to nothing to solve the problem and we are all aware of it, anyway.
Why don't you try to control the assmilkers by not rewarding them. Of course, if people can make many new nyms and reward themselves in circle jerk manner, this may be hard to work. You could limit the number of nyms a person can have, but the question then becomes, how? You could also control it by making the cut for the house larger, thus limiting the amount the circle jerkers can jerk each other. However, this limits the rewards that the honest posters and commenters can give each other. Again, it comes down to individuals gaining the discernment on how to understand the assmilkers freeloaders freeriders parasites and who they are. Of course, there are people willing to guide us by telling us who they think are circle jerking parasites (@DarthCoin, @Assmilker and others). This we can do without centralized control, by ourselves (@Undisciplined).
Whatever you think or do the topic of assmilkers freeloaders freeriders parasites is freighted with a lot of poison, poison to the assmilkers freeloaders freeriders parasites and poison to those call it out. Why just not cultivate your own garden and do your own weeding. Let everybody handle thier garden as they wish.
Interesting! Those who are calling others ass-milkers are the biggest ass-milkers themselves. They are complaining because their ass-milking supremacy has been checked. The evil is trying to fool everyone nothing else. If ass-milking means earning more sats than spending by zapping is, here's the biggest assmilker of all time.
Now, if sees it, you'll see he'll comment some shameless meme. Also he'll say that he wants leaderboard to be revoked, but in reality he wants to impose his ego and jealousy. He'll also say that some stackers have more than one account but he's again the one with most number of accounts. Look at the recent desertdave>daviddonis>daidofthedesert. He's now behaving in the similar way as dramacoin does. Dramacoin wants attention and he's doing the same.
I'm sad to say that SN isn't the same old place that it used to be before this drama around ass-milking nonsense was purposely created. But why was that created? It was because some stood against him and his asskissers (most probably his sockpuppet accounts).
I'd also like to confess here that I don't have might to stand against them and I don't want because they'll shamelessly call names to your mother or anyone/anything that you have utmost respect.
But, I've found a way to ignore these cheap trickster bullies and I don't care what they say and what they mean 'cause they are only lying.
reply
Just because someone climbs the board, it doesn't mean they are paying attention to it and actively gaming the system.
If we got rid of the board and the rewards, it would just take that gaming opportunity out all together. zaps would shrink but sats would flow more evenly and freely.
reply
If participants dessert the board, how do the sats flow and where do they come from? SN would be no better than a thousand other bulletin boards, would it? How are they doing now?
reply
Isn’t there some way to live-and-let-live? Let everyone do what they will do? I don’t think there’s another way to keep SN running on some kind of keel. BTW, I notice that he has 164 referrals, whereas I can find none. I am also aware that each referral gets 10% of the daily zaps of his referred people. Could that explain the differences you noted?

Right!!! Incooooooommmming I don’t think that there is a way to avoid them. Where do you get these perfect faces and situations? Absolutely perfect!
reply
Gee. Who would want to post this anon?
reply
When in doubt, the downzap button is right there. Don't hold back.
This is absolutely the right message. Be the change! If good creators aren't getting as much attention as you think they deserve, zap them more and share their stuff.
Elevating good content is another way of making it harder to game the system.

and mute
reply
I never mute anybody! If I don’t like it, I will look and forget. If it is really unlikable, I will not open those posts. I can do it myself without the help of the software or centralized authority! I like to make my decisions.
reply
I'm 90 percent sure @DarthCoin has muted me lol

lucky you

He gets emotional about Liquid
Anyone who endorses Liquid is a statist or shitcoiner according to Darth and his army of NPCs
reply
Not even biting on this one!
reply
lol
me too
update: I belong to a Telegram group that is more Liquid centric. Most of the users are not familiar with Lightning or Nostr. It's interesting meeting people from different communities.
I guess he has made the executive decision on your posts and comments, then.
reply
I tried to be civil with him then I gave him a taste of his own medicine
reply
I have found that medicine is always bitter.
reply
I've only muted one "person" and I think it was actually a chat bot that was spamming my comments. After many irritating interactions, I decided that I'd be happier not seeing those replies and was confident that I wouldn't miss out on anything substantial.
reply
Sounds like a solid decision. Not Liquid!
reply
sounds like you are biting lol
reply
Maybe, just nibbling.
reply
Yep, although I've only used that feature very sparingly.
reply
downzap in fact is also feeding the assmilkers... all sats are going to SN pool and back to them. The solution is no leaderboard, no rewards.
reply
Yes, I can understand that problem. There may be no solution that avoids feeding them if you also want to reward good efforts. To eliminate all rewards would, in essence, eliminate a lot of people from SN who work for rewards and want them. This is the problem, the conundrum that he developers face.
reply
That's partially correct. It goes to rewards, but their share decreases, so they should end up with less. That's not a guaranteed outcome, though.
Your "solution" is like shooting yourself in the face to remove a blemish.
reply
You are also part of the problem: you are one that is zapping assmilkers and supporting them (because you also want to be on the leaderboard).
reply
Ok, well, tough shit for you then.
reply
I don't give a shit anymore...
reply
You look well armored, too. With armor you could wade through the stuff.
reply
My epic tale
reply
I think that we are are all part of the problem and part of the solution, depending on what our goals for this are. I also don’t think that there is a human world where you will ever be able to avoid these creatures, assmilkers freeloaders freeriders parasites!
reply
I love it!!!!! Rotflmao :) I just hope that the downzap works as advertised. I did one by mistake once when I first started, but haven’t since then.
reply
listen to this guy. please listen.
reply
I have and will continue to listen. He has a lot to say.
reply
Yes, I also understand it is up to each individual participant, much like enlightenment. Only the individual gets enlightened, contrary to what the lefty/Marxist/socialist/communist/murderers think or say.
reply
The problem is called freebooting and no, zaps do not fix it. If anything, zaps makes it worse.
reply
Explain how zapping good content makes the problem worse. Please have more detail than just "it makes the rewards pool bigger".
reply
I guess if someone sees rewards as a problem there is not a cure or a solution.
reply
Not necessarily. The rewards could, hypothetically, be structured in a way that leads to really perverse outcomes. I just haven't been able to ring an explanation out of anyone about how this rewards system is doing that.
reply
That may be because it isn’t causing perverse incentives. I don’t see them either. The only thing I see is that the parasites do sometimes infest the body.
reply
Actually, I just looked up what he's talking about and it's that people can be rewarded for posting other people's content as though it were their own, or just reposting it without permission.
I know people do this, but it doesn't strike me as a huge deal. SN could probably make a flag or something for content like that.
reply
Doesn’t it give you a warning when you post duplicates and similars? I don’t post if i see someone else posting the same thing. I have over posted when there are only a few minutes between their and my posts. But other than that, I don’t see it happening very much.

What if the content aggregator is not the original author? Nothing. Who cares.
But what if they also get paid directly to aggregate others content? And on a website that has a leaderboard, a rewards pool, and non-discerning users and you get... ass milkers 🤗
reply
Do you see a lot of that? I'll admit to being fairly bad at picking up on it.
Unless the original authors are on Stacker News, I don't really care. Of course, I'd prefer attribution be given, but sharing the content is not without value.
reply
Yes, I also understand it is up to each individual participant, much like enlightenment. Only the individual gets enlightened, contrary to what the lefty/Marxist/socialist/communist/murderes think or do! Damn collectivists!
reply
Yea I’m not worried
reply
About the big bad nasty people? No need to worry, at all. They will chock their own throats.
reply
@k00b wen mute by keyword?
This SN meta is wholly uninteresting.

In the future. I’m with you on the lameness.
reply
I think what is lame is having to talk about it over and over again. There is just nothing anybody can do except mind their own business, sats and zaps.

reply
Yes, then the Stacker News community desolves. Is that the result you are looking for? Personally, I prefer this to any other social network I have seen, so far.
