I don't know what some of these icons are, either (the gun? the horse?) but the culture is generally "fuck around and find out" vs explicit asking. Although sometimes people let stuff slip :)

Usually questions / discussions related to the operating of the site itself are asked in the ~meta territory; but I will often ask less weighty questions in the daily Saloon thread which lots of people at least glance at. It's a good place to hang out when you're new, to see who's who, and to get into the rhythm of things.
