The link is following the situation but based off of what I have seen on X an altercation clearly broke out with a unit as the investigators tried to enter the property to arrest him.
Turns out there is a huge protests around his residence claiming he is innocent and that what is being done to him is wrong.
The Unit blocking is 55th Guard Corps according to Yonhap News. The Unit is responsible for perimeter security of the residence. An official from the Corruption Investigation Unit said:
"The military unit, which is currently believed to be the capital defense command, is preventing the execution of the arrest warrant for investigators."
@south_korea_ln have your heard anything about what is going on/could comment on this? It seems like it's the US equivalent of the Secret Service protecting him and they won't stand down?

I think a friend is currently protesting there, but radio silence for now. You can follow along here, for the big developments: https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2025/jan/02/south-korea-police-on-way-to-arrest-president-yoon-suk-yeol-latest-updates#top-of-blog

I just saw that two of the officers just got indicted so I wonder if that is how they are going to end up ending this...

Jeez.... I dont know to me this seems kinda wild I mean who is in charge of the troops? Can't some General order them to stand down? Plus I am just saying what if this was a distraction so he could go lock himself away in that bunker I mean whats the next move then!?

He's a former top prosecutor. He likely knows quite well how the law works and will do anything he can to make it harder on his opponents. At the same time, we still don't know what got into him when declaring martial law, so maybe a case of "don't find malice where stupidity can explain things".
He's got the support from some generals, at least, as supposedly, its their advice that pushed him to declare martial law in the first place.

He had to have gotten the worlds worst advice with whoever suggested Martial Law as a good idea… I mean Geez

Are the locals calm and not expecting widespread unrest?
reply
Not really.
The majority of people just feel ashamed. Most people agree he's a clown. He still has loyal supporters, but they are in the minority. And mostly, old.
All be damned the military unit held em off
Its a pretty interesting situation and seems to be playing out like that of Donald Trump. They are even waving signs saying “stop the steal”

Seems like the Unit is standing strong… though idk if statements like this will “weaken” them
The Center for Military Human Rights Korea has issued a statement claiming military forces and tactical vehicles at President Yoon’s residence are being used to block his arrest, calling the situation a “second insurrection”. The Guardian has not verified reports of military forces and tactical vehicles being used to block the arrest.

Doesn't seem like this will end anytime soon unless something wild happens

I mean honestly I am still confused on what he did and why he did it. Either he got hella played or I mean its an insult to stupid people to call him stupid. There was no way this idea he had was going to succeed not to mention he said there was evidence but never presented any.
Not that the protesters even matter the freaking Army isn't letting them in and have previously blocked investigators from being able to search his office and residence. It seems like the 55th will keep him protected unless higher up command tells them to stand down.

the army are the worst kind of gov parasites
corrupt politicians only have 'power' because of them
reply
They have power because you give it to them. Soldiers have long before and far into the future will disobey orders for better and for worse and historically we have seen this play out.
