OK, not exactly how I pictured my first ~HealthAndFitness post, but whatever. This is where we are.
Got a new laptop setup and definitely need a portable mouse for it. Been googling around and the internet scares you with wrist pain or muscle ache etc. I've only ever used the laptop trackpads and, so far, never had any health issues.
Whatcha guys thinking?
There are some really beautiful (and pricey!!) options out there:
Really tempted to try an Apple magic touchpad, but also the Handshoe Mouse looks amazing.

(and no, I refuse to say "mice" for the plural of these products. Verifiably stupid European with stupid European opinions...)
I like the Kensington ball mouse. I don’t trust myself to move my entire arm when I move the mouse. The ball avoids flicking my wrist constantly to get carpal tunnel
Great health post!

I find Logitech MX Master 3S to be perfect. I bought like 5 of them at this point for myself and my family.

Loving both the Master and the Vertical. Looks like I'm gonna keep both, lol

As an audio engineer, this is a truly important topic for me. We spend too many hours with our hands attached to a device that controls the cursor on computer screen.
The Kensington line of products has been my go-to for many years. I'd been using their Expert Mouse Wired Trackball for a number of years -
But, after a couple of years I started experiencing pain and discomfort in my hand, wrist and arm. The stationary nature of this trackball really helps + the assignable buttons make my editing way quicker, but my hand would perpetually end up in an unnatural position for most of the day - sort of parallel to the desk surface. This is what was prompting much of the pain.
Over a year ago, I switched to their Orbit Fusion Wireless Trackball -
It hasn't solved all of the pain, but it greatly improved the situation. It gave my hand more of a natural tilt + the trackball has a smaller footprint on my desk.
I was too afraid to go with one of those mouses / trackballs that would place my hand almost fully perpendicular to the desk surface. Either, I'd be stuck with a mouse that I have to move around (I prefer trackballs) or, as one of my colleagues that works in the same space pointed out, the trackball would be assigned to only my thumb and that gets tiring pretty quickly.
I guess I didn't really recommend any of the ones you shared above 😁, but maybe the extra insight will help you decide.

really not sold on the trackballs (family members have used them and swear against them) but I gotta say the red one looks aaaamaaazing! Imagine having that on your desktop, woohoo

They take some getting used to, but I've been using them for so long that it's like second nature. They're pretty standard in recording studios.
But yeah, every person that sits down at my desk that is not an audio engineer is like.... what the heck is this?!

Have you had any problems with wrist pain? I know it's meant to be preventative, but I feel like a lot of this stuff is solutions looking for problems.
reply
no, no pain. But I use them a lot (for pushups, acro, yoga, handstands etc), so I'm kinda wary you know
reply
I hear that. I had to bail on the 100 pushups till 100k challenge, because of my wrists.
reply
yup, gotta protect those.
I bailed for weakness reasons... freakin fell off the wagon. But now we got ~HealthAndFitness maybe it's time for another round

The Logitech Ergo M575 is below $50. It's small and can connect via bluetooth and wireless dongle so you can have it set up for two computers. It's a thumb trackball mouse, but I've gotten so used to it and it doesn't take up much desk space.

I've never used a true ergonomic mouse for very long, weirdly enough the ones I tried make my wrist and elbow hurt! However, of the ones I use regularly all have a slight angle to them which for me makes it very comfortable.

I recently bought a Razer Basilisk V3, and find it quite comfortable. The wired one is cheap at like 40k sat
