The fear of snakes has always been in my family since we have always lived in rural or country areas. That's why I liked this article and I hope you enjoy it.
However, when the images of salamanders were modified to show them wearing snakeskin, the monkeys responded just as quickly to these pictures as they did to pictures of snakes. The scaly skin seemed to be an important visual trigger.
Very much in tune with our understanding of how we process certain types of information, as presented in the book Thinking, fast and slow.

I found this video very interesting, seems to imply that fear of snakes is something we learn from society vs something we are born with. I wonder how baby primates would do around snakes:
