Ok, i have a few injuries, like a bulging disk etc, and just a general of need for 'maintenance'. I think as we get older, we all need to start doing maintenance of some kind.

so for me, the 3 biggest game-changing items are

  1. rumble roller (or Chinese knock-off version)

this is especially vital if you lift weights for massage. muscles need to be relaxed as well as tensed!

you can also add in things like a tennis ball and things like that for massage.

  1. acupuncture mat

cheap and effective! especially handy if you get lower back tension like me, 15 minutes on this thing before bed of after working in the garden or something makes a real difference

  1. a lumbar support thing for my brutal office chair

basically, i need something there all the time and this does the trick! not the one i have, but same idea, back support if you don't have a great chair

what about you fellow stacker cripples, have you got any good little recommendations?

My wife has the rumble roller and LOVES the PAIN☠️

I don't have any exposure to any health and fitness tools, including the gym tools. But a few months ago, one my friend let me use something similar to a robot hand. That was really cool.

Does it measure grip strength or what?

reply

It's kinda hand strengthner and a rehabilitation tool. I don't know specific uses but my friend had an injury.

reply

i wonder if something like that could be used while deadlifting to increase grip strength

i have a massage gun, tend to only use on my shoulders tho. how's that stick?

reply

It’s great, I’m a runner and have used it for years! I have bad planter faciates right now. So massage gun, rolling on a frozen water bottle, and sleeping in the Strassburg sock.

reply

is the frozen bottle instead of a roller, or just like a cold relief thing?

I'm considering red light therapy...

reply

aren't red light masks a hot thing on social media right now? been seeing them pop up quite a bit

reply

Dunno really. I'm not on social media, except nostr and SN. I read a book on the topic, and someone I know spoke very positively about it.

I also badly want one of these, but the price though...

reply

super expensive yeah, i think having too much data like that would make me almost too paranoid. i have a cheap smartwatch that does pulse, steps and has some sleep tracking, which is probably not super accurate. good enough

reply

I'm working daily on, and meticulously tracking my breathing. I'm interested in how it affects my overall health, hence my interest in that gadget. For me, the more data the better. My hope is that, after a while, it'll reveal patterns, correlations etc to help me make informed and objective health decisions. I'm considering buying the generation 3 model, which is cheaper...
