Did Dak deserve 60M. Love, Herbert, Hurts, Lawrence all make over 50M. Love and Herbert have done nothing but shit the bed in the playoffs and Hurts is a running back playing quarter back. Lawrence had one good year and has been disastrous otherwise. Sure they all have higher ceilings than Brock.
I don’t think he should be getting 60M either. I make the argument there are only a few really good situations for him. But the market is the market.
Wait until it is time for Mahomes and Allen to get their next extensions. They are going to be 80M apy.
Possibly but no one would blink an eye if it’s the best QBs in the game getting that level of pay.
This whole “the market is the market” idea is ridiculous.
As a fan who lived in QB hell for 20 seasons I saw QBs get the “market rate” and did absolutely nothing to improve the football team.
Niners have been good despite the QB. I think management missed on Trey Lance and now they are trying to justify overpaying a slightly above average QB in Purdy because that’s what the “market rate” is. You watch way more games than I do of Purdy but the times I have watched him nothing jumps off the screen with this guy. He’s not fast. His arm is okay. He makes good reads and gets the ball out but a soon as the running game dies the niners offense becomes nothing. I never seen Purdy over come that. Put the team on his back with 30 or 40+ attempts for massive amount of yards and TDs. That makes me think here we go again another QB about to get a massive deal locking up cap to not fill out the team around them then boom you start to suck and end up in no man’s land of QB play kind of like what the giants are dealing with now. They should’ve paid Saquon and not Daniel Jones.
This is just my thoughts. Purdy should be aware of his limitations and leave some money on the table to fill out the team around him. But if getting paid is more important than winning then I predict this will end badly for the niners.

I think your perspective is fair. Purdy is at his best when the offense is balanced. His best games are when he is throwing 25 times and highly efficient, not when he has to throw 35 or 40 times. But 49ers are also not built that way. It’s hard to say if he would be successful or not if they were a more passing game focused offense with a better OLine and more explosive WRs. They have good receivers that destroy zone defenses but they don’t have burners that are vertical threats.
In my eyes there are only 4 elite QBs in the league and then a few young guys like Stroud, Love, Daniels, Williams that have potential to become elite but it remains to be seen.
32 teams need a quarterback though so what are the other 24 teams supposed to do. They can’t all tank to try to get the next potential elite guy.
Rams won a Super Bowl with Stafford. He is really good and a veteran but not elite. Philly almost won with Hurts. 49ers almost won with Purdy. Lions might win this year with Goff. It says something that these teams are coming close without top 4 QBs but instead guys that fit their system really well.
I guess my point is there is so few elite guys that you have to decide if you want the search for perfect to be the enemy of good.
(Also I would say you are mistaken about Purdy not being fast. He isn’t a major running threat but he is quick and can use his legs well to escape trouble. I would say he is in the top half of the league in QB running ability but not amongst the top guys)

I looked into the rushing stats. Purdy was 11th in NFL this season for QB rushing yards. He had more rushing yards than Mahomes and had more rushing TDs than Jackson. He had the same amount of rushing TDs as Murray. So he doesn’t have elite speed but can make things happen with his legs.

Who are top 4 elite QB in your mind? Mahomes, Allen, and who else?
reply
Mahomes, Allen, Jackson and Burrow. I put Burrow back in after this season. Prior to this year I would have said 3.

That was my list, too.
AFC is stacked

Yeah definitely.
