I haven't listened to their podcast yet. The blog post I found the pod through, You can’t ban things that have hit escape velocity, compares attempts to ban TikTok with gun bans:
The reason that gun control has fallen out the side of the Overton window is that guns have gotten more popular. Federal law, state law, and the courts are downstream of that. It was easy to talk tough about banning TikTok, and, it turns out, much harder to personally shut down its 170 million US users. Same deal for guns. Easy to talk tough about banning them. Much harder to personally come after the 86 million US adults who own one.
I've queued up the pod. Byline:
In-depth interviews with outstanding founders and builders in the civilian defense industry. Culture is upstream of politics, and technology is upstream of culture.
I've heard of "politics is downstream from culture", but not "culture is downstream from technology." I think that's (probably) correct.
Edit: I thought the idea was interesting enough to warrant its own post: #859047

Specifically regarding firearms and self defense in general. Its a human right to be able to defend one's self and your property. With that in mind I've heard the advice from a bitcoiner in the ammunition industry that the single most important thing gun owners can do is join your local gun / sport club. Many are small family operated places that need to be able to keep up their property taxes. Building a new range is much harder to do that keeping one active. This goes double for states like California and New York.
Even if you don't use the services very often join your local range / club. We are winning but don't be complacent. There is strength in numbers and while you might have land for your training activities new gun owners likely do not. Building an ecosystem here makes sense as it does with bitcoin.

Even though I live in the golden state where you are told on social media and the "news" its hard to own guns we have a wealth of clubs, and ranges. If you aren't aware some of the nicest people you will ever meet you will meet at a gun range. Weird isn't it?

A little more clarity. California does suck when it comes to gun restrictions. And yet, there is a massive number of gun owners and CCW holders. More important than the state rules are the county or city you live in. The rule vary wildly and in rural areas there is much more gun adoption and liberty. This is pretty common across the country but you don't usually hear this detail. Much easier to dunk on California and ignore your own back yard.

Game theory at play. I wonder what other technology adoption this could apply to....
