Great work! And all those are off three runs a week? Do you increase the long run distance or nah?
My best and only was 3:53
Was on for a 3:20 but had some knee issues which I found out after was my hip or whatever was out and probably caused it
Ran half on target then had a run walk half to finish
I think I needed more kms on the legs not less which is why I find your theory interesting
No, all those were from 1-2 runs a week, with 1 short run and 1 long run, sometimes 3 a week but mostly 2. I usually do 23km for my long runs tho, and would slot in a 30km 2 months prior to race day and a 38km 1 month prior.
I felt I've been under trained for all my previous marathons except for 2023, due to me not sticking to a schedule. I was well trained and on pace to beat 4hr in 2023, then I got owned by blisters and ended up limping for the final 10km. All my previous marathons I've been plagued with blister problems. I finally found the solution in 2 layer socks last year, where I was under trained and still got PB because I didn't have to run in pain from blisters.
But yea, inconsistent training schedule and under training had been keeping me slow. That's why I decided to start this post and maybe it will help put me on a schedule and keep me accountable.
On pace for 3:20 and still finishing at 3:53 while having knee/hip problems is fast. Good for you!
