Finally getting around to using my StartOS node. Installed StartOS a while back with the idea of using it as my private bank (ala @DarthCoin's guides) node with only private channels to my main well connected LND node. Both on 1 Liter PCs that I bought used. A Dell and a Lenovo. Good machines that you can pick up on eBay for cheap. Much better than a Rpi.
Any CNL tips. The ecosystem is much smaller than LND but there are some advantages I think. One being BOLT12 offers which Ocean the mining company supports for lightning withdrawal. The disadvantage is that I don't think NWC works with CLN. I could be wrong about that though.
It does appear LNBits supports CLN though so that's good.

I use both CLN and LND on my start9. CLN overall seems to not work as well, more inexplicable times when I can't send anything out or receive anything into the node. Bolt 12 is cool, I use it to get sats dripped into my node from mining with Ocean.
I'll also say, as well, that I had a similar setup with private channels to the main node. Be very careful with this setup, as I once tried to make a payment from my private node, then when it didnt work I made the payment from my main node, and the result was like a force close chain reaction for any channel that had an open HTLC from the first payment I tried to make. Lesson was learned, costly and my channel partners were not happy. So, i subsequently dont have my nodes connected any longer.

Never try to pay an invoice twice, (especially not while a payment is pending) else nodes can and will steal from you (= tell you they’ve successfully forwarded the payment but they didn’t). That was the mistake. That your private node used the same routes as your other node was just the icing on the cake. But sounds like you didn’t lose any funds except to mining fees.

wow, i did get very lucky there. This may go to top of list of 'brutal realities of self-custodial lightning'

You could pair LNBits with CLN, then connect NWC to LNBits. LNBits acts as a bridge.
There is a CLN-NWC plugin you could try also. https://github.com/gudnuf/cln_nwc

The right answer here.

I haven’t used it myself yet but you might want to check this out
