When you look at what Russia has been able to do and by that I mean attempt and fail in a dramatic fashion. It is not surprising to see this guy get the ax. However, I am not sure he is even the one to blame given that Putin has launched a unnecessary and detrimental to Russia invasion of Ukraine. 99% of the partners they relied on cut their times with them and pivoted to the SpaceX and other rocket providers thus zapping the coffers of Roscosmos .
There has also been the huge corruption scandal but are we surprised? Its been known that Russia has a corruption problem and it was only a matter of time before it came to light and absolutely wrecked the space agency. They have been plagued by failed launches, satellites falling out of the sky, and their part of the ISS consistently leaking oxygen among numerous other things.
Space programs are a huge media win for countries as they are able to show off cutting edge technology and be the first to do numerous things but Russia hasn't been able to innovate and keep up. They now lack the funds they were receiving from other countries given the ties being cut and overall it is just not looking good for Russia moving forward. Sure you got rid of this guy but you lack the personal now to adequately address the issues Roscosmos faces
