I have never tried rye whiskey. I don't know if it's something that's easy to get here in the UK.
Although I'll always recommend scotch whisky, I have to say I'm quite partial to a glass of bourbon. Perhaps rye whiskey is similar?
Bourbon is at least 51% corn. Rye is at least 51% rye. Corn is sweeter. Rye is spicier.
There are high rye bourbons, low rye bourbons, etc.
More complicated than I thought, but not surprising. Must arrange a whiskey tasting session for myself I think!
