Hi stackers today is a very special day for me, I woke up this morning with a bunch of audios on SimpleX from my mother in a call for help, and then others explaining that she had already solved the problem... And that she had successfully managed to buy her first 2625 through the lnp2pbot of Telegram.
Which represents an important milestone, my mother is a woman over 50 years old and although age is not an impediment she thought it was, wow it has been many hours and many messages in this last year and the previous one for her to pay attention to me, about the invention of Satoshi.
Finally I think I managed to wake her up and for a few months she has been interested in learning, she has even given me some money to create a Wallet and deposit some first SATS. (My mother lives in Venezuela and I have been abroad for some years) So it has not been easy to show her what I have been learning since I fell down the Rabbit Hole πŸ‡ trying to transmit what I have learned from a distance is not very easy to say.
But today I feel happy because I have shown that it is difficult but not impossible.
Today my mother has bought her first SATS herself through the lnp2pbot. A project that I love, for its simplicity and its easy way of operating it.

Congrats!! you did it. My father gave me money to buy Bitcoin for the first time only trusting my word. Back then he did t know anything about it. So, can I count it as the easiest Orange pilling of a dad?

way to go mom! It has not been easy for me i got my dad to buy bitcoin only to find out he sold it, he said he didn't like it because its too volitle. that was at 10k, fast forward to today he wants to buy it again... I had him read the bitcoin standard.
reply
I had him read the bitcoin standard.
That was definitely the best advice you could give him this time.

has it been easy to give the orange pill to your parents?
as a kid, my little bro didn't like to have ear drops put in his ears but we would go to the pool and he would get water in there and freak out about it... so of course, we'd all have to hold him down and he would scream and hate it that we were putting ear drops in his ears to "keep his ears from getting infected"...
so, now, as adults, I feel like they're my little bro. they hate the idea of bitcoin. it's embarrassing, frankly... they scream and shout and they're not going to want anything to do with it.
in other words, they're not even a little bit orange pilled.
put another way, I'm the orange sheep of the family.
reply
Good sheepπŸ‘πŸ§‘, better than black sheep, from my perspective.
But I think they will have to apply the same tactic as with the ear drops, abruptly and against their reasoning, they must make them store bitcoin and learn how to use it. Once they go down the rabbit hole there is no turning back.
reply
Awesome!
I have not tried to orange pill either of my parents. They're both so technophobic that it would be completely pointless.
When bitcoin or crypto have come up, I have given really short simple explanations of why bitcoin is so valuable and everything else is some BS scam crap (to channel Darth).

My brain burns when I try to talk about Bitcoin with my parents, it's like I'm talking to a teenager about using protection. Guess how long it took me to get my mom to dare to just turn on the computer. I totally understand what you're saying.
reply
I understand you perfectly, but believe me when I tell you that the key is to insist, insist, and insist until you get them to pay attention.
My mother is clear proof, and believe me, if there is someone who is bad at moving around with aspects of technology, that is my mother. But although technology seems difficult to her, she quickly understood the monetary part that bitcoin tries to solve and how the state deceives us and steals from us all through fiduciary money. And be careful πŸ‘€ she didn't understand it the first time either, it has been a long and constant work just to get her to the point of awakening curiosity and allowing an open position to listen and learn.
If your parents still don't take the orange pill πŸ§‘πŸ’Š don't give up, it's just a matter of insisting more, and in the end they are the only ones with whom it is worth spending our lives teaching them and trying to make them understand.

Congrats! Thanks for sharing!

I know that many struggle just like me to teach their parents that this is the only real salvation, and I know that it is an overwhelming task.
So I share my story so that others can see that it is possible.
You just have to keep trying, insist and keep working on it.

Wow! That's fantastic.

Yes, thank you very much for sharing my joy.

Congrats. Got my mom to get the etf, she’s in her 70’s and not tech savvy
reply
Excellent, that's a start, but remember:
"If you don't touch it or keep it, it's not yours"
Try to change that ETF exposure to a real exposure in bitcoin, without counterparty risk.
Self-custody is the way
reply
Yes, your way is better but I had 0% starting her there as it’s money in a retirement account. Small wins. I’ll get her there.
reply
Excellent, keep working and you will achieve your goal.

Excellent! Little by little I am implanting the idea that only this can help her save something of value for her retirement.
And every day she continues to learn.

Yea, I work on my family really hard. I want them to enjoy their future.

Lnp2pbot is the way to go!
reply
If you love lnp2p you will get married with Mostro !!
reply
I gotta say, that's very, very impressive! I'd like to learn more about the educational techniques you used.
But I'm guessing - am I right? - that her "lived experience" of the Venezuelan currency was an education in itself?
reply
Is your mom using CoinOS?
reply
Yes, currently, I have been teaching you how to use Coinos and WoS for LN. and Blue for On-chain.
reply
nicely done!
I'm going to checkout lnp2pbot
reply
Just do it! lnp2pbot is a fantastic tool, easy to use and always with liquidity available for buying or selling, at least in small amounts. Ideal for the purchasing power of South America, which is much lower than that of Europe or the USA.
reply
Congrats!
I've just had a look at lnp2pbot. It looks like most of its users are in Latin America. I live in the UK and it doesn't even support GBP. When I selected EUR, most offers seemed to be from Spain.
reply
You can use GBP on lnp2p bot, maybe finding a buyer/seller in that currency is more difficult because is mainly used in latam. Just create an orde on the bot and select GBP as currency!
reply
Thanks, I only checked the offers on the website and I guess there were no offers in GBP in the order book.
