I always find that when I want to try and debate savings rates or get into an unproductive beef with someone over bitcoin on facebook, it is always important to mention and show that Fiat is shit and is, as Matthew Kratter says, a melting icecube.
People in the global south understand that local fiat currency is dogshit, but people in the west with relatively more stable currency rarely ever understand how their fiat is also dogshit that is getting debased when compared to other assets.
so I have a few go-to charts I found that I like to use and I'll share them here. let's see which favorite charts you have. I'm still looking for some good ones on pounds V gold and bitcoin over time and some more bitcoin-specific ones.
I tend to find more gold charts because goldbugs have been making the debasement argument for decades and a normie typically doesn't have a knee-jerk reaction to gold so the visual point sinks in better.
bonus one that i think i saw on @TomK's nostr i think, i like this one because it shows that a government cannot ever be trusted to not debase money, even when on a hard standard'. this is a good one because bitcoin is the first form of money that a gov cannot fuck with.
What are some of your favourites?
