After I originally shared my "cypherpunk lantern" design on Xwitter and here on Stacker News, I got some excellent feedback from bitcoin plebs all around the world. Multiple friends and family members have asked questions about it which has started some great conversations.
What's even more motivating, multiple people have told me that I should make and sell these (including @k00b here on SN) so I decided to give it a shot and launch a simple Geyser campaign to see how much demand there actually is.
I have named the first iteration The BitLight and if you are looking for a unique piece of bitcoin culture hanging from your ceiling, on your desk, or in your workshop, I am accepting pre-orders on Geyser here: https://geyser.fund/project/bitlamp
Have you considered incorporating a micro miner into the empty shell? Something like a Nerd Miner? That would be the perfect piece of art, paying homage to the history of mining while also serving as an example when explaining what mining is.
reply
Absolutely but that will have to be in v2 as it would drive up the price a bit and I would have to figure out an effective way to wire it and everything.
This one is just a light but if I add any actual hash power, I will call that one the HashLamp or Hash Lantern 🏮
This is just to get the project off the ground and see if anybody is interested enough to spend the sats for a base model.
reply
That's a very cool project Jon, just threw a couple of sats in :)
Also, a big kudos for sharing the miner & other Bitcoin-related pics on your Unsplash page, I already have it bookmarked to re-distribute some of those pics via SATOSH.EE (#784376) and the Open Source Culture (#883698) initiative.

Thanks so much for your support and kind words.
It’s good to know that people are using my images to further spread the word about Bitcoin.
If I can sell enough BitLamps, I can get a bunch more miner pics uploaded to Unsplash.
Again, thank you for your support.

What a great idea, congratulations. Where else besides Geyser can you sell your products?
reply
I think Geyser is the only bitcoin-native platform that makes it easy to sell products.
It’s also really nice to be able to pre-order through Geyser so I can gauge demand before I buy a bunch of broken miners.

I found the aesthetics beautiful and very original. I wish you success and I know the buyers will be happy.
I unfortunately cannot contribute because I am not in the USA.

What country are you in?
I’ll add it to my list of things to look into to see if I can get the power cables and shipping for your country.
reply
I’m from Brazil

Based.
Now take it up to 11 with a red light therapy special edition.
Peep https://getchroma.co/ for inspiration.

An interesting idea.
I will see what I can do.
Maybe in a later model if I can sell enough of the v1 to buy enough miners to lower my costs.
reply
What's inside? any pics?
reply
It’s just a light bulb but I will work on getting some better pics uploaded and make the project look a bit better overall.
Perfect is the enemy of done so I just launched v1 of the project.
I would also like to add some laser cut acrylic to the ends to make it really pop but that can only happen if I sell enough units.

Let’s go!

Let’s go indeed!
