We had a couple freezing days this week. The article largely suggests batteries are the reason demand could be met.
Unlike in winters past, ERCOT now has more battery power to help shoulder high demand in the hours before the sun rises. While batteries aren’t workhorses like gas-powered generation plants, ERCOT relies on them to strategically bolster supply during high-demand periods. Use of battery power peaked at about 4,500 megawatts Thursday morning — with some batteries deploying for more than 2½ hours.
No mention of curtailment or bitcoin mining.
On X, Abbott said "And, we are adding much more power this year" in reference to this article. Maybe bitcoin miners are helping them pay for it.

Texas is pretty much mining country right? You'd have to imagine having all of those miners helped them add capacity.

Yeah I'd guess some double digit percentage of hashrate is here.

One day it's going to be common practice everywhere. Good for Texas for being ahead of the curve. I'm guessing that they'll be the first to the plate for a bitcoin reserve too, for better or worse.
