I also dream of running a marathon and winning it. I'm running 2.5 kms daily for now and increasing it every week. Started with 1km 2 months ago.
Since you're running daily, you're probably in better shape than you think. If you want to try going longer distances, I think you can just go for it. You might be surprised in how far you're able to go.
