ok so im a nobody and a nothing so my inbox isn't getting lit up or anything, but these days, i basically have a few rules
  1. I basically don't click any email links ever
  2. I don't click any text message links either
  3. If anything comes from the bank etc, I always manually call them back from the number saved in my phone
  4. if I get something along the lines of 'you've got a fine, this is the police etc' I just ignore it, the cops will get me if they really want me!
  5. i basically don't trust anything , I was contacted by a recruiter recently, and even then later, i called the recruitment agency and verified the person's name who called and that the position was active etc
sad state of affairs these days where everything could be a scam. my default any time an unknown number calls is 'who the fuck is this and what do they want'
i think if i had any kind of real social media presence or was a real successful person or something, i would just have a separate laptop for use on social media, i'd just separate everything out completely
what stacker security are you guys doing?

Use Bitwarden (or similar password manager) so that you only fill info into sites that are authentic.

if the password manager is hacked though, isn't that like hitting the motherload at once?

I'm completely terrified of clicking any links lol, especially from emails.

bloody minefiled! tell the wife to watch out for scam recruiters too; that's a common social engineering scam too now.

You're doing very well. Disabling automatic image loading. It's very common for trackers to be loaded in those images, so it's better to manually download images for the emails you trust. Or you can use Mozmail or Duck Mail by DuckDuckGo; they both work as aliases (hides your main address) and remove hidden trackers.

Disabling automatic image loading.
THIS 💯. Also disable it on signal and nostr. If you have an iphone or a macbook, run it in lockdown mode.

Thanks, I do this. I'm an Android user (with all stock apps removed, only FOSS) and I use a powerful open source firewall like Rethink or NetGuard to block all unnecessary traffic, plus NextDNS to block trackers.

I moved off iPhone to pixel+graphene myself so I'm in the same boat on the phone side.
I'm currently trying to build a pihole-like wifi router from an odroid M2 because I'm on the road a lot. Improve with every step.

Wow, I have a request: when you're done, can you post a guide with easy steps on how you did all this? I'm not very techy, but I do whatever I can. I read articles and community forums on Reddit and F-Droid; everyone helps a lot by sharing exactly what to do. Thanks

Yes, I promise I'll share, and feel free to remind me when you think I'm taking too long. Note that this is strictly hobby time so its not going to happen in the coming week, but with a bit of luck it can definitely be done this month.
I've bookmarked your request so that I won't forget to tag you.
