Don't think they said why. Found the session, was in 2018. https://meetings.aps.org/Meeting/MAR18/Session/R16.1
Pre-COVID. So maybe not a specific trigger. I think academia was still adjusting to the new normal with Trump in power. Likely would not have been a very constructive session. Your guess is as good as mine.
