It's undeniable that public spending is higher in Europe because of the political and social system, but it would be important to decode this spending to get a better idea.

I'd wager the spread between the US and Europe maps pretty closely to the spread in GDP per capita between the two.
It matters a little what the government spends on, but in general government spending has approximately zero value. It should be thought of as a deadweight loss to the broader economy, as a first approximation.
