I used to think along these lines, but it sounds like most of the personalities in our space already know about Stacker News and treat it like a competitor to their own brands.
I still think the answer might be in figuring out how to get them more involved, though. We just have to figure out how to do that.

I wonder which platforms view SN as a competitor and why?
Nostr doesn't seem like it should be considered a direct competitor because SN is more like Reddit while Nostr is more like Twitter. Both co-existed and served different purposes.

I think the logic is that crowdsourcing is a substitute for following particular experts.
They worry that people will prefer the discussions we have over just receiving their insights and they don’t want to take the time to actually engage with their audience.

As much as people trash Reddit (deservedly), it's still one of the best places to find information about lots of topics. Like if I have a question about a video game, i'd trust Reddit more than I'd trust most other information sources. Crowdsourcing works, especially if it's on topics that aren't politically charged.

Right, but you probably don't hear the biggest Twitch streamers telling people to go read Reddit threads to learn about games and you definitely don't expect them to be on Reddit engaging with people.
Stacker News' built in monetization changes the calculus a bit, but I'm not sure it will be enough.

I would think most are worried more about growing there business and taking on sponsors advertisers is a great way to do that so they will take the sats or cash over promoting another business SN that they won’t get much at all in return from or don’t know they can get a referral return from

Good point. It all amounts to the same problem: What would properly incentivize their involvement here?

It's hard for me to get inside the mind of someone who doesn't immediately vibe with Stacker News.

A simple and effective way to promote SN is to share great posts with people based on their interests, not just Bitcoin. If someone loves cars, show them (CarTalk). If they’re into books, send them (BooksAndArticles). Let them see SN as a place where they can engage with what they already enjoy, then the Bitcoin aspect becomes a bonus. Also, casually mention they can earn some sats just for contributing. Free money for sharing thoughts? That usually gets attention.

How about the idea of writing contests? I think it's an idea worth trying. All participants will receive sats.
