Thanks for this. The 1980s GOP (or even the early 2000s) wouldn't recognize the GOP of today.

Thank goodness. Neocons that led the US into senseless wars in the middle east. They are still terrible today but at least the neocons have been kicked to the curb.

Watch the world's wealth, world's capital, and world's investment (not to mention scientific research) flock to the EU.
Impossible to believe 6 months ago, but things have changed so rapidly and continue to change fast.

And the GOP of the 80s TALKED to the Soviets. They negotiated. Governments and politicians are evil. The US lied, broke promises made. The Russian government has been guilty of terrible crimes. Dumbing this down to meme is cute but the douchbags in the seat of power on boths sides don't really care. They make money either way if the war continues. I mean right now the arms companies are printing money with the armaments the EU is talking about. The loser is the pleb. The people of these nations.
There are pro-Putin people but just because someone is pushing to end the war doesn't mean they are a mindless bot of Putin. That's a really lazy take. Don't defend Putin for sure, but don't pretend the US government. That same one that invaded Iraq under lies is trustworthy.

I think there needs to be fair concessions. Russia admits they invaded, they withdraw troops from most of the territories 'they have', and they keep a small number of 'new territories' as a symbolic gesture.
And Ukraine also agrees to this, to not attack and also to allow international companies/institutions to come in and "verify" that there is actually peace.
That way the Russians get a little bit (but withdraw most of their troops) and the Ukrainians get safety from further attacks, but at an economic price.
That way there's a 'lasting' peace and both sides make concessions. Right?
