We went to check progress on our house build yesterday which fronts onto a creek system.
We went to check out the creek and we met our new neighbour a big 2 m long red belly black snake
Welcome to the jungle
I hate snakes, but I have my fair share of snakes where I live. It’s a trade off for the beauty of woods. But I don’t think I’ve seen one of that size near my home, thank god
reply
Yes we also debated the stomping technique to scare them off is this a thing or not the vibration of the stomping I thought it was but others didn’t think so
reply
I have no idea
reply
Well that doesn’t clear it up haha 😛 Maybe not a great idea
Keep a lookout. Despite the common advice to stomp and make as much noise as possible, snake experts say that snakes don't generally react to the vibrations. It's better to just stay alert.

Nice!

Gave us a fright that’s for sure haha big poisonous snakes can do that haha
What poisonous snakes do you have?
reply
There are none native in our part of the world. I'm a little jealous.
reply
Are you in nz? I think they have no snakes
reply
No. I'm far from NZ, and we do have harmless snakes.
reply
No snakes that seems weird to me. Where I grew up we had three types and all would kill you. So I’ve always stayed away from snakes. Now were we live there is more types some non venomous as well but I just stay away from all
reply
Oh, I meant there are no venomous snakes. Our snakes are harmless. The ones I have seen are garter snakes, ribbon snakes, and corn snakes.
reply
Ah yes I got you now. I guess you wouldn’t be so fearful or cautious around snakes then ?
