Working full time on Nostr and Bitcoin

why primal sucks in performance when I use a vpn (no matter what IP will be used) ?
  • can't upload an image
  • can't open notes shared on other places, I must first be logged in and then search for that note.
  • sometimes all relays became not connected and only the primal cache works.
I have a real bad experience with primal. please add some debug logs so the user can diagnose better what is going wrong.
reply
Could be related to your cache, because on our Web clients we cache a lot of data from the relays which could eventually lead to poor performance. Try clearing your cache or using Primal on a different browser entirely.
Using a VPN could block certain permissions that Primal needs in order to perform at it's highest, so we recommend against using one. However performance should still be usable. If this is not the case feel free to reach out to me directly via DMs and we can go through further debugging steps.

As a developer I admire the speed, and the fact that you manage to work across so many platforms.
Can you tells us about your tech stack? What computer languages and tools are used for the web version, the backend, the mobile versions?
reply
@Marko When you implement NIP-46?
reply
Since I started my journey with Bitcoin, I've been introduced to various platforms, including S.N. and Nostr. I work with Primal in particular. Have you considered improving any aspects in general? Or do you currently have updates planned?
reply
Thanks for all you do.

Why can’t we pin POSTS?
reply
0 sats \ 0 replies \ @ek 26 Mar
You mean on SN?
You can boost posts. If you pay enough, you’ll be pinned at the top for 30 days or until someone boosts more than you.

flipside of @DarthCoin's (silly?) question: why is Primal so much better/nicer/flashier than everything else?

ok. Now in English

NOT ENOUGH, amirite!

What differentiates Primal from other nostr clients in your opinion?
reply
110 sats \ 1 reply \ @Marko OP 26 Mar
Caching and Indexing service. This allows us to cache content from the relays and index all of it for smoother and faster feeds/searching

Can a user still directly connect to relays? Like if Primal’s services would go down, would the frontend continue to mostly work?

What's something you believe about bitcoin that no one agrees with you on?
reply
100 sats \ 1 reply \ @Marko OP 26 Mar
I'm sure plenty of people agree with me on this but buying Bitcoin adjacent stocks such as MSTR or GME now is a shitcoiner move. Stay humble as Odell says...
reply
This makes zero sense. Primal is funded with VC money. Main reason why Odell shills Primal more than any other clients.
Those VCs own a part of primal future Sat flows. This is the same logic bitcoiners have when buying stock in bitcoin companies. This and shitcoining are two different things

What's your definition of "nostr client"?
reply
Any client that has at least one integration of Nostr protocol stuff. As long as we can sign in and sign with our private key, it's a Nostr client.
reply
0 sats \ 1 reply \ @ek 26 Mar
Stacker News allows you to login with your nostr key (via NIP-07 or NIP-46) and crosspost to nostr so I guess that then counts as a nostr client.
reply
Absolutely!

Greetings! Could you please remove the constantly showing "1" badges? Thanks :)
Sometimes also on "Premium".
I guess I should not complain about a free service, though.
reply
I completely agree with this, however we put these badges to ensure the safety of your private key. You should really back up your private key safely. Please feel free to reach out to me directly via DMs if you need help with this

How do you know about my backup strategy? I'd say it's rather safe, but it's not connected to Primal nor my browser in any way. Please don't assume that I'm doing anything wrong. And if you do, please give me the option to acknowledge your warning once and for all.

What's something you believe about nostr that no one agrees with you on?
reply
When Nostr wins, there will be only one major Nostr app that majority of people will use. Not saying this will be Primal necessarily, but this will happen. Nobody agrees with me lol

How'd you get into bitcoin development?
reply
Got into Nostr development first! Was always a Bitcoiner since I was child, but Nostr development is my first real development foundation, which merged into Bitcoin development

Who is the smartest person you've ever met?
reply
My grandfather. Straight up computer scientist/genius in the real essence of those terms. Man was programming when computers were just 0s and 1s
reply
If you had to rebuild Primal from scratch using only 1990s technology, how would you do it? No modern web frameworks or JavaScript heavy frontends, just raw HTML, CGI scripts, and whatever else was available back then. Could Nostr still work?
reply
Man great question... I believe it would have to be straight object oriented programming, without a caching or indexing service... Those things didn't really exist back then! Mind you this was more than 10 years before I was born
reply
What would be your biggest word of advice for aspiring software developers who want to join and start building in the Nostr ecosystem?
reply
Study and learn NIP-01. Without a full understanding of NIP-01, you will be lost on Nostr concepts. You can find a full study page on the Nostr official Github page

What do you think the zapping economy will look like in 5 years/10 years? Will high-performing posts be making pretty decent stacks of sats of V4V corn, or do you think that will be further down the line of adoption?
reply
Zapping economy has already taken over Bitcoin total transactions. Content creators will be incentivized to create more content on Nostr because of zaps. We have already seen zapvertizing which I believe will take over the way we look at social media
