There's something so weird about this but also so relatable.
This reminds me of the phones that are just phones. Like the light phone. Some of us just want the phone to be used to message and call, not for all the social media stuff.

The lack of connectivity is a factor here for the author. Even those light phones are probably relatively distracting compared to an always offline device.

Not always offline, he was saying he has to connect to his computer. But I understand what you are saying, the lack of connectivity really makes a difference in productivity. Just being more productive for an hour longer each day adds up throughout the year!

Nice read. Technology that wasn't constantly online touch a sweet spot of productivity without interruptions.
Also the Alphasmart Neo was an example of that.

Wow! I had a palm pilot...dang, it was a LONG time ago. Actually I had all of them, as they evolved. And I absolutely loved it. It was an amazingly well-designed little device.
I loved their alphabet - I think it was called Graffiti. When writing fast, I still make the letter E in the Graffiti style.
I can really see the appeal of this one.
