We are counting down the Best MLB Ballparks for the 2025 season.
Here is last week's edition #932244
The next ballpark on our list is #25.
Great American Ballpark- Cincinnati Reds Opened: 2003 Capacity: 45,814
They tried to build a retro ballpark but they made it look more like a park from the 70s or 80s than a park from the 1910s-1930s. The fact that is nestled against the Ohio river is a nice feature but they did a poor job highlighting this as the river view is minimized by all the outfield bleachers/structures. It looks like a perfectly decent place to watch a ball game but like last week's submission, Loan Depot Park, it could have been so much more. I will say even though it is named after an insurance company, Great American Ballpark is a good name for a stadium and its nickname Great American Smallpark (for its tendency to be hitter friendly) is even better.
See ya next week for #24 on the list.

I would have thought GAB would have been near the end of the top half. I’m indifferent towards it. I have a soft spot for the Reds and the city is cool.

The city is really cool. I haven't been to the park, just driven past it. Maybe I would change my mind if I went. I docked it because it could be great like PNC being on the river and all but it doesn't have near that charm.

This reminds me I’m interested in going to some games locally mostly to enjoy the stadium energy, but I have so many memories of traffic jams and road rage from coming and going from Candlestick park that I’m hesitant.
Are they building these modern stadiums with better car related infrastructure?

I think it depends on the city and location. Austin has a minor league baseball team. The Round Rock Express. They are the triple A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. Won't be the same scale and amenities as a pro ballpark but looks like it holds 10k fans so maybe that will give you some of the stadium energy you are looking for without the overcrowding, traffic etc.

I'd probably go to a soccer game - seems to be our major sport here. They're playing LA Galaxy this weekend and we have a public rail service that goes right to Q2 Stadium from downtown. It's not a big pro ballpark by any means but it's something.

MLS is a good product. Should be fun.
