I think it depends on the city and location. Austin has a minor league baseball team. The Round Rock Express. They are the triple A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. Won't be the same scale and amenities as a pro ballpark but looks like it holds 10k fans so maybe that will give you some of the stadium energy you are looking for without the overcrowding, traffic etc.

I'd probably go to a soccer game - seems to be our major sport here. They're playing LA Galaxy this weekend and we have a public rail service that goes right to Q2 Stadium from downtown. It's not a big pro ballpark by any means but it's something.
