Graphene Texting Issue?

My graphene pixel 7 seems to have texting issues over the past few weeks. I haven't changed any settings. Friends and family are either not receiving texts or receiving them hours later. Perhaps it is the result of an update?
Has anyone else been experiencing this?

I have experienced this over the weekend. SMS can fail and does fail and this isn't necessarily a Graphene issue. But it could be.
Were the texts to iPhone users?

The SMS app crashed on me. You have me wondering if it was an OS issue. Seems to be working now though.

About an hour ago I got responses on a bunch of texts I sent over the past few days.

The issue I've had with texting has been - it won't notify me of a text. I have to manually go into the text app and look for messages.
It's been at least 4 months. I posted on https://discuss.grapheneos.org/, no results. I'm not terribly upset about it, I'd troubleshoot more if I were.

I don't have notifications turned on, so I don't know if I also experience this issue.
Do you use the built in app, or are there other graphene supported messaging apps that you have tried?

I'm using the google one. Not ideal, I know but I wanted to be able to text from my laptop.
