Reasons I do/would do it:
- to know people cared enough about replying that they paid to do it
- to know that people like what I did/think enough to give me something that they value
- because I don't have a large following on follow-based social media apps and I will likely get no visibility or replies otherwise (ie a level playing field)
- because I see the system as relatively virtuous/meritocratic and I find earning my place in such a system relatively validating
- I think bitcoin can be used to solve problems other than store of value and commerce and this one of few places experimenting with that and I'd like to see it grow and such experiments grow
- I hate ad-based social media and realize that anything I'm using that is free now will likely enshittificate itself with ads/data-mining, so I want to support/be somewhere that does not have that destiny
- I'm highly skilled at tasteful writing, and/or finding great things to learn/read, relative to other people, and want to earn some pocket change
- I like people that show up to a weird website for the above reasons and I want to spend time with them and help bring more people like them here (even if there aren't many yet)
Man, some elaborate and eloquent reasons. Maybe I should start using SN more

I'd like to see more great answares. What values SN brings, why post here is better than HN (for example) or any other competitor in your business plan?
by the way, who do you consider a "competitor"? I know isn't nostr
reply
I see other forums as "competitors": Reddit/HN/LessWrong/Delving/BitcoinTalk. Basically, places that share our format/style of social media and/or provide the same kinds of content/learning/connection.
Of course, I don't view all of these as competing with us, but I do think about their "systems" and why/how/if they attract people when we do not.
As public social media gets destroyed by AI bots, I suspect our "competitors" will will increasingly be apps that have great private group chats.

Funny enough, it feels like none of these other platforms get affected by AI bots, or maybe they do and have good moderation system and mods doing the hard work.
Browsing SN sometime I notice outlaw content and not sure why as been tagged that way.
reply
When other platforms don't like stuff they delete it. When stackers don't like something, they pay to "downzap" it and get it marked as outlawed (which can be reversed by other stackers paying to "upzap" it). Outlawed items are still viewable to people with "wild west mode" on in their settings.

Community moderation: can we define it like this? It's a great feature!
I haven't participated as much on HN, but here on SN you will find a greater diversity of topics, and you'll find people with more libertarian leanings and people who like bitcoin

I admire @ek's posts welcoming newbies. In the other side @DarthCoin kicking assmilkers out the @saloon main door and tagging shitcoiners bios with his knowledgeable meme force. I'm intrigued by these contrasts.
Does look to you SN is only for people that agree with these values and ideologies? Could a democrat, socialist or communist be welcomed here as libertarians and anarchists are?
want to earn some pocket change
nearly falling into the stack sats topic
